MINNESOTA’S AWESOME FOOD SCENE
From our food-focused festivals, award winning restaurants, or the “new Nordic” food revolution – Minnesota offers more than enough for every traveler to check off his or her must-taste list. So when you come to Minnesota, what’s the one food you have to try? While some will argue it is walleye (the state fish), lefse, or lutefisk (two Scandinavian staples), the one that gets the most acclaim is: the Juicy Lucy.
The premise of this delightful dish is simple: Take a cheeseburger, but instead of putting the cheese on top, stuff it inside the patty. The result is a delicious cascade of molten cheese at first bite that can be dangerous if you’re not expecting it.
Minnesota is also home to more than 100 craft breweries, 50-plus wineries and nearly two-dozen distilleries and has become a top destination for its craft beverage scene, thanks in large part to our agricultural roots. Craft beverage aficionados will not only enjoy libations that are made here, but made with locally sourced ingredients like grapes, apples, grains, hops and wheat. Distilleries like Tattersall Distilling and DuNord Craft Spirits in Minneapolis provide chic spaces that serve dozens of cocktails made from more than a dozen spirits including vodka, gin and aquavit. Breweries like Surly, Castle Danger and Schells Brewery have become household names even outside of Minnesota.
Don’t forget to stop at one of the great Irish bars like Kieran’s Irish Pub, Cooper Pub and The Local to grab a pint and connect with local Minnesotans who have Irish heritage!
