NEW FERRY SERVICE AND JIM HENSON AT MOMI

WHAT’S NEW

A long-awaited permanent exhibition featuring nearly 300 costumes, puppets, scripts and sketches from cartoonist and puppeteer Jim Henson’s career in film and television will open at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, on July 22. Henson is known for the adorable puppets from his perennially popular television show The Muppets, as well as for his work on the children’s show Sesame Street and the films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.

The new NYC Ferry launched its South Brooklyn route, the line’s second, on June 1. The ferry runs between Lower Manhattan and Bay Ridge in southern Brooklyn, with stops in Dumbo, Downtown Brooklyn and Red Hook, as well as several other Brooklyn neighborhoods. A new route connecting several neighborhoods in Queens to East 34th Street and Wall Street in Manhattan is expected to debut August 1, followed in coming years by lines that will connect additional neighborhoods in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens to Manhattan.
