Daytona Beach 2016
My America Holiday Orlando/Daytona Beach twin centre starts from £875 p/p
Daytona Beach located on the East coast of Florida stretches along 23 miles of glorious sandy beaches. Known as ‘The Original American Beach’, Daytona is a family-friendly destination about an hour’s easy drive from Orlando and the perfect twin centre choice for a 2016 Florida holiday.
With nearly $2 billion being invested in the area, there is something new for all ages to enjoy including the recently opened oceanfront rollercoaster and a new planetarium. Art lovers will be in for a real treat at the new Cici and Hyatt Brown Museum of Art, a $13 million facility filled with the world’s largest collection of Floridian art.
For a bit of Americana, a visit to The Root Family Wing at the Daytona Museum of Arts & Sciences is a must. It’s 100 years since Chapman J. Root, owner of an Indiana-based glass company, responded to the Coca-Cola Company’s challenge to design a “bottle so distinct that you would recognize it by feel, in the dark or lying broken on the ground” – he won the patent to the iconic bottle. His grandson Chapman S. Root inherited the company and relocated to the Daytona Beach area in 1949. The exhibit is one of the largest collections of all things Coca-Cola in the USA and chronicles the history of this famous American soft drink on which the Root family fortune was founded.
Over at the Daytona International Speedway, a $400 million re-imaging project called Daytona Rising will be complete in January in time for The Rolex 24 At Daytona followed in February by the jewel of racing, the Daytona 500. And, it has just been announced that the Ferrari World Finals will be held in North America for the first time in history at the Daytona International Speedway from 1-4 December. The event will bring together all competitors from the European, North American and Asia Pacific series of the Ferrari Challenge for a battle for the World Championship. Whether you’re a racing fan or not, a visit to this world centre of racing is definitely a must on every family’s itinerary. The speedway offers three guided tours, the All Access Tour and Speedway Tour which run daily and the VIP Tour which runs on selected Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays.
Also known as “The Festival Capital of Florida”, Daytona Beach plays host to an eclectic mix of year-round film, music, food and art festivals. The first ever three-day Country 500 music festival, 27-29 May, will be held on the infield of the Daytona International Speedway with a line up of some of the biggest stars in country music including, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Kid Rock, Lady Antebellum, Willie Nelson and dozens more.
With so much to choose from, let’s not forget that visitors come to the Daytona Beach area year-round to swim in the sparkling waters and enjoy the miles of beautiful sandy beaches. Whether visitors are looking for high-energy adventure or just to relax, the Daytona Beach website www.daytonabeach.com offers more information on how visitors can experience this unique and fascinating area first hand.
