RIDE THE RAPIDS IN THE CAPITAL REGION USA

Visitors to Virginia’s capital city, Richmond, can experience whitewater with Riverside Outfitters – paddle the iconic James River between Pony Pasture and Reedy Creek; a guided adventure that allows thrill seekers to gain a unique perspective on Richmond’s inner-city wilderness.

For visitors looking to take SUP to the next level, those daring enough can also take to the whitewater on a stand-up paddleboard with Riverside Outfitters from $75 per person. Upper-River Kayaking is priced from $59 per person. Flat-water kayaking and rafting are also available.

Just 20 minutes from Downtown Washington, DC, Potomac Paddlesports offers Mather Gorge whitewater rafting excursions. Featuring Grade Two and Grade Three rapids, this guided four-hour excursion takes in the unique cliff formations of the Mather Gorge, from just below Great Falls on the Potomac River in Maryland. Rafting excursions are priced from $125 per person.

Looking for a unique aquatic experience? Riverside Outfitters and Potomac Paddlesports also offer SUP Yoga from $49 per class, reservations required. Challenging balance and core strength, sunrise and sunset classes with Riverside Outfitters allow yogis to take in the serenity of the river while being conveniently located in Downtown Richmond while Potomac Paddlesports offer two-hour SUP Asana yoga classes allowing yogis to connect with nature on the calm waters near Angler’s Lot, Maryland.

Dirty Dancing is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary in August 2017. Filmed on location at Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia, the resort is offering Dirty Dancing fans the chance to stay on the set of the movie; including a tour of Baby’s cabin and the fictional Kellerman Resort.

Located in the heart of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Mountain Lake Lodge is offering themed weekends throughout the summer where guests can take advantage of dance lessons in addition to a Dirty Dancing Film Location Tour which takes in sites such as the lakefront gazebo, Baby’s cabin as well as newer additions to the property; a Dirty Dancing memorabilia exhibition and Patrick Swayze Memorial. Themed weekends have sold out for 23 – 25 June but bookings can still be made for the 28 – 30 July and 25 – 27 August 2017 with an additional weekend due to be added on the 15 – 17 September 2017.
