SEAWORLD’S OCEAN EXPLORER
SeaWorld California is to open a new marine adventure attraction next year which it says will ‘create a realm for ocean discovery’.
Named Ocean Explorer, it will feature multiple aquariums, rides and digital technology to inspire guests to protect the oceans.
Construction is now underway on the ride which will take guests on ‘an expedition across the seven seas’ where they will take on a role similar to that of a marine biologist on a global mission of scientific exploration’.
They will travel to Ocean Explorer’s undersea animals aboard submarines, the signature ride of the attraction.
Embarking on these mini-subs, visitors will become researchers on a mission to collect data and learn how they can help animals.
The three-minute experience will include an onboard digital navigation dashboard as well as a few other surprises along the journey, enhancing the riders’ understanding of the ocean ecosystem.
The heart and destination of Ocean Explorer will be a series of undersea research bases housing specially-designed aquariums and interactive activities displaying unique and elusive ocean animals.
Visitors will come eye-to-eye with animals like giant octopuses, huge spider crabs and dozens of moray eels.
Ocean Explorer will also feature a wave swinger ride where guests will fly through thousands of real bubbles in chairs suspended from the tentacles of a giant jelly.
Three additional family-friendly rides will round out the fun of the family-focused attraction.
Construction on Ocean Explorer is underway on a three-acre site where the Animal Connections exhibit and the Circle of Flags are currently located on the southeast side of the park.
This attraction is scheduled to open in late spring of 2017.
